Department : Road Ready Product Engineering
Location : Southfield, MI
Job Description :


  • Support all product engineering activities related to life cycle management, to include design changes, quality improvements, cost reductions, component changes, etc.
  • Support all product engineering activities related to new hardware and/or feature releases, to include leadership of design and related meetings, documentation, etc.
  • Collaborate with Product Validation and Development (PV&D) personnel to create test methods and/or validation plans, submit lab work requests and monitor test status related to product engineering projects.
  • Create and submit manufacturing sample requisitions for subassemblies and finished goods required to support product validation testing.
  • Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings (utilizing GD&T practices) for components and assemblies. Evaluate and select/specify materials and finishes for all components.
  • Support interdisciplinary engineering/technical interactions with outside contractors and internal engineering resources. Interdisciplinary engineering fields include but are not limited to Electrical, Firmware, Software, Plastics and Mechanical Engineering.
  • Support all travel requirements to customers (OEM, fleets, partners, etc.) and manufacturing facilities, as required.
  • Provide technical support to the commercial group, to include meeting attendance, on-site visits, developing and/or presenting technical documents, etc.
  • Lead the management of the warranty analysis process, to include receipt of returned product, documented technical review and/or teardown for root cause analysis and corrective actions, and reporting of statistics/data related to these activities.
  • Develop trend analysis related to potential failure modes and lead effort to implement corrective actions.
  • Lead problem solving activities related to product engineering, to include design, quality, and product/process improvements.
  • Monitor process quality metrics and work directly with Process Engineering on identification, implementation, and validation of process improvement projects.
  • Support development of relationships with partner colleges and/or universities, to include leading cooperative development projects.
  • Lead and/or participate in the creation and maintenance of technical documents such as data sheets, installation instructions, troubleshooting guides, etc.
  • Lead and/or participate in the development of processes, procedures, work instructions, forms, etc. as necessary to support organization and growth of the department/company.
  • Other tasks and/or assignments, as required.


  • Requires 4-year engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer or other related discipline; candidates with other technical degrees will be considered based on relevant work experience.
  • Requires experience in 2D/3D CAD modeling; NX/Unigraphics experience preferred.
  • Prefer formal problem solving and root cause analysis skills/experience.
  • Prefer project management experience, MS Project, PC skills (MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Access).
  • Prefer knowledge/experience in agile environment and use of Jira software.
